Building information modelling (BIM) is a methodology based on the construction and management of modelled building units. It uses three main tools: CAD (computer-aided design),Computer Aided drawing (CADC) and drafting systems. Building data modelling is an evolving procedure supported by numerous technological tools,applications and contracts involving the production and analysis of modelled functional and physical features of buildings. In the past decade the use of the methodology has grown immensely,leading to the supply of a wide assortment of services within the field of architecture,building and construction and related fields.
The term”building data modelling” identifies the development of CAD systems used in the modelling of buildings so as to produce 3-D virtual representations. Building information modelling is based on the construction planning and design process,which are undertaken by both public and private sector organisations.
The aim of building information modelling is to create a digital model which may be used for all sorts of future purposes,such as architectural design,site preparation and construction. This is achieved through the production of modelled and designed building units,which may be used as a basis for any future development,from the preparation of buildings to the construction of a new construction. These electronic models can subsequently be used for any number of applications,which vary from visualisation and layout of buildings,to the construction of these models.
Using building information modelling is now a growing sector in recent decades,with thousands of companies offering CAD services to architects and construction companies. It’s estimated that in the UK alone about one third of all new construction projects are being undertaken utilizing these types of electronic model. But this sector has often been underestimated,with many people still relying on traditional procedures of building layout.
In the event of parametric modelling,the modelling tool used is a universal one,such as AutoCAD or Deneba; in the case of CAD/CAM,the software used is a specialized one,for example as ArcGIS or Adobe Illustrator. Both methods produce highly accurate digital representations,but in different ways. Because the electronic modelling procedure is so flexible,it has numerous benefits,which may greatly reduce the cost of the whole construction procedure. The first of these is thatit may be used on a far bigger scale than in years past since there aren’t any additional costs in the shape of staff,machines,etc.,and the production of electronic models means that the amount of work entailed in creating a model can be greatly reduced.
